Clarence T. McIntyre

Little is recorded of the life of Clarence T. McIntyre outside the lodge. He was an electrician by trade and was 23 years old when he petitioned Gray Lodge in 1900. He received his degrees that year: the Entered Apprentice on July 24, the Fellowcraft on August 24, and the Master Mason degree on October 16. He served as Junior and Senior Steward and as Senior Deacon, and he was elected Senior Warden for 1904–1905, serving under Marcus S. Clark in Clark’s second term.

He was installed as the 34th Master in 1905 by District Deputy Grand Master I. S. Roberts, aided by Past Master John Hughes, and his year was one of the most important in the lodge’s history: the move into a new home. At a summoned meeting on October 18, 1905, the lodge voted to move into the new Masonic Temple at Main Street and McKinney Avenue, built by the Masonic Building Association in which Gray held stock. On October 20 the lodge met for the last time in the old Grand Lodge Temple, its home since 1871. On November 1, 1905, it held its first stated meeting in the new lodge room, three blocks away. Moving the furniture cost $9. Gray’s half of the furnishings, including new carpet, came to $234.34, and 43 new chairs were bought at $5 each. The lodge room of Holland No. 1 and Gray No. 329 was dedicated on March 16, 1906.

His year also called on the lodge’s charity. When the great San Francisco earthquake and fire struck on April 18, 1906, Worshipful Master McIntyre immediately forwarded $50 from the Charity Fund to the Grand Secretary for the Masons of San Francisco. The lodge also invested the $1,500 in its building fund in 60 shares of the Masonic Building Association.

He demitted from Gray Lodge on March 17, 1909, and the lodge’s historian found no further Masonic record of him in Texas.
